Included is correspondence, primarily that of Stephen Galatti, AFS's second Director General; reports, photographs, drivers' letters and diaries from the field, lists of drivers, press releases, clippings, information pamphlets, newsletters, bulletins, recruitment posters, and other printed material, and awards, insignia, and other memorabilia. These relate to the planning for the reactivation of the AFS at AFS headquarters in New York, driver personnel matters, recruitment, public relations, fund raising, overseas transportation, casualties, tributes to drivers, and general and miscellaneous matters relating to the administration of the AFS, and to AFS's operations in France, the Middle East, the Central Mediterranean region, India/Burma, and with the British Liberation Armies. Of note are correspondence, clippings, and photographs relating to the AFS's participation in the liberation of the Belsen concentration camp in 1945.

The American Field Service (AFS) was founded in 1914 as a volunteer ambulance corps. It served with the French Armies in World War I.
